While a visit to a ‘death cafe’ may not sound that appealing, they are certainly experiencing an increase in popularity  – so what exactly are they?

Death cafes provide a comfortable environment in which people can talk openly about the sometimes uncomfortable subject of death.  Until recently these meetings often took place over a cup of tea and a slice of cake, but with lockdown restrictions in place meetings have now moved online and take place via Zoom or Facebook.

Having the opportunity to speak about death related issues in a friendly, open environment can help to reduce fears and anxieties.  Lowering these anxieties can also have a positive impact on general wellbeing.

How can I help someone to do this?

You could help someone to search for a virtual death cafe meeting. If they are not already registered with the necessary website or application, you could help them get set up.
